Preserve Volunteer Opportunities
with Little Traverse Conservancy

Kenyon and Sally Stebbins, Preserve Monitors
for the Stutsmanville Bog in Emmet County

Preserve Monitors
Currently more than 100 individuals and families act as Preserve Monitors for a particular nature preserve owned by the Little Traverse Conservancy. Monitors visit their assigned preserve at least twice each year (spring and fall) and send us a report on the condition of signs, trails, structures, etc. Read more about these responsibilities in the publications below. Note: There are currently no Preserve Monitor Positions open (April, 2008).

Preserve Monitor Guide Explains the responsibilities asked of our Preserve Monitors.

Trail Stewards
Four times each summer, Trail Stewards walk a designated trail, perform necessary maintenance, and send us a report. Tasks may include clearing branches and trees, replacing signs, and repairing boardwalks. Note: There are currently no Trail Steward Positions open (April, 2008). To find out more about this volunteer position, read our Trail Steward Program Description.

Project Volunteer

Throughout the year, but particularly in the summertime, we hold project days or work bees at nature preserves that need special attention. We publish these events in our newsletter and in the local press, and we also keep a list of volunteers who may be interested in helping us on these work days. Tasks may include trail construction, boardwalk building, tree planting, trash cleanup, structure removal, invasive plant removal, habitat restoration or whatever else may be needed. Work days may take place on any days of the week, except Sundays, and typically go from 9:00 am to noon. Contact Cindy at 231.347.0991 or cindy@landtrust.org if you are interested in being "on call" to participate in one of our elite work crews :-).
