US-31 Corridor Project Receives Frey Grant

The Frey Foundation has announced it will give $500,000 over the next three years toward the Conservancy’s US-31 Corridor Project. Through this effort, the Conservancy will be seeking acquisition of land and conservation easements along the US-31 corridor from Petoskey to southern Charlevoix County. The overall goal of the project is to work with landowners to protect the scenic character of the travelway. Land protection options will include donation or purchase of scenic greenbelts, nature preserves, or roadside parks.

“We also plan to work in partnership with counties and townships to mesh their own priorities for protecting the corridor with ours,” explained Executive Director Tom Bailey. “Thanks to the Frey Foundation, this project is off to a great start.”
