North Point Nature Preserve

Adjacent to the Mt. McSauba recreation area, North Point Nature Preserve provides 27 acres of tranquility and diversity. The many trails which wind throughout the preserve offer opportunities to see successional stages of forest cover, 2800 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline and three threatened plant species: Pitcher’s Thistle, Lake Huron Tansy, and Pumpell’s Bromegrass.

North Point was purchased with funds contributed by the people and businesses of the Charlevoix area, with the help of a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. The land was deeded by the Little Traverse Conservancy to Charlevoix Township as a public nature preserve.

North Point Nature Preserve provides a home to a variety of wildlife. Some of the more commonly observed animals include deer, porcupine, squirrels, and rabbits. Ducks and various shore birds are common, and loons, eagles, and great blue herons may be spotted on occasion.

Directions: From US 31 in Charlevoix take Mercer Rd. north to Pleasant St. Turn left onto Mt. McSauba St. Turn right before the dirt road. The preserve is on the left.
