Agnes S. Andreae Nature Preserve

The Agnes S. Andreae Preserve includes 27 acres with frontage on the lower Pigeon River. Most of the frontage is on the west side of the river with a footbridge connecting the portion on the east side. The land was donated to the Conservancy by Mrs. Agnes Andreae in 1983.

A significant feature of the Andreae Preserve is that it assures the protection of a sizable stretch of frontage on the Pigeon River. The Pigeon River flows north through relatively undeveloped land, and eventually flows into Mullett Lake. The Andreae Preserve river-front community varies from high bluffs having scenic views of the river to a low flood-plain.

A two track road provides access to a cabin built in 1908 and used by the Andreae family. Overnight use of the cabin is available by permission to organized groups. Scout troops have used the cabin for many years for fall, winter, and spring retreats and camp outs.

Directions: From Indian River take M-68 east, and turn left onto Onaway Rd. Follow Onaway Rd. about 1 1/2 miles to Riverwood Rd. and turn right. At the "T" junction with Big Sky Trail, the Preserve sign will be visible near the gate.
