The Knee High Naturalist programs described below are geared for ages 3-6. Parents are required to attend with 3-year-olds or groups of two or more children. Pre-registration is required. |

Wednesday, July 2
Mammal Mania
Thorne Swift Nature Preserve (north of Harbor Springs)
Northern Michigan has an abundance of mammals inhabiting our forests, fields, wetlands, and even towns. Learn what sets mammals apart from other animals, look at several mammal furs up close, and take a hike to look for signs of mammals or maybe even see some! |

Explore a Shore
North Point Natural Area (Charlevoix)
With 2,800 feet of lake Michigan shoreline, there’s plenty to discover here. Walk the trails through the nearby woodlands, explore the shoreline and dune habitats, play some beach games and create your own beach art to take home. |

Into the Forest
McCune Nature Preserve (east of Petoskey)
Use your senses to explore the upland hardwoods and lowland swamp of the McCune Preserve. Identify trees using a simple field guide and tree key and make a leaf rubbing scrap book to remember your adventure by. |

Insect Investigations
North Central Michigan College (Petoskey)
They’re small. They crawl, fly, and swim and they live just about anywhere. Search for these six-legged critters and capture them for observation using nets both in the field and in the pond. Use field guides to identify them and learn their secrets. |

Animal Homes
Susan Creek Nature Preserve (north of Charlevoix)
All creatures need shelter for survival. Look for holes in the ground, nests in trees, galls on plants, and a variety of other animal homes during a scavenger hunt exploring the trails and habitats of the Susan Creek Preserve. Where would you hang out if you were an animal living here? |

Treasure Hunt
McCune Nature Preserve (east of Petoskey)
There’s no pot of gold here, but this preserve is full of natural treasures. Be a nature detective and find some of them by using a map and deciphering clues. Add a sticker to your detective chart for each treasure you find. Can you find them all? |
